Why No Responses from Forums and Web Forms Minimize

Notice Regarding Communication Breakdown
On Oct 27, 2008 one of our users brought to our attention that the forums were not being tended to.
Here's an explanation of what happened.   Somewhere around the August timeframe, we stopped receiving email notifications from web forms and the forums when new posts were made.   Since the majority of all support requests come to us directly through emails to support@gulf-technology.com or through Snowcovered and the DNN Marketplace, we only check in on the forums when those notifications instructed us a post was made.   Since the forums are so low-use, we haven't made an effort to keep track of them and should have noticed the lack of notifications and to that end, please accept our apologies.

Ironic that as a result of trying to provide a number of flexible communication methods for making requests in order to keep up quality of service, one of those communication methods failed completely when our DNN portal stopped relaying messages through our web host's SMTP server.

We've since moved the email system to use gmail's SMTP server and will commence testing it as a more viable solution over the next few days as we work through this backlog of requests.

Just to be clear, support and further development of our modules has been and will continue for the foreseeable future.  In fact, we have a number of exciting features coming very soon. We've continued to support and provide upgrades for all existing customers and will continue to do so.

Question regarding File Sharing

Hello,

I like the functionality of sharing files by users groups/roles.  This is very helpful.

I would ultimately like to keep my users sharing files just within their role and not with roles that they are not members of.  I see from other posts that this functionality may be coming in the future.  For now, is there a way I can turn off who can do file sharing?  I thought I could give only the host or administrator the right to share files this would prevent my users from sharing files accross roles.   Is there a way I can do this?

Thank You,

Carrie

Re: Question regarding File Sharing

Good Afternoon,

At this time there is no functionality for turning sharing off.  Controlling who users can share with as well as ways to disable this feature for certain roles -- is the highest requested feature we are currently working to implement for an additional spring release within the next 30-45 days.

Please keep the great feedback coming!

Best Wishes,

Bill Dodd

Re: Question regarding File Sharing

Is there an update on this functionality?  I did not see it in any of the release notes and at one time it was believed it would be ready in the spring.

Thank You,

Carrie

Re: Question regarding File Sharing

Carrie,

Sorry for the delayed response.  We're not getting notified of posts in this forum for some reason, anymore.  Occassionally that just stops working and I really don't know why.  If you had frustrations you are always welcome to email me at support@gulf-technology.com  -- these emails come to our phones and are usually addressed within 24 hours.

The release being beta'd at this time, plannning to go into general availability by next week, allows turning off of file sharing.   Restriction of sharing within a role hasn't been a widely requested feature but is certainly doable.  Turning off file sharing has been highly requested, along with the "receiver module" concept, also available in this release.

Best Wishes,
